The $45 million seven-story hotel will be built at 9110 Harris Corners Parkway in Charlotte, NC.  The 130,000-square-foot hotel will feature a shared Courtyard and Residence Inn lobby, Courtyard’s latest bistro concept, two patio areas with an outdoor swimming pool, an oversized exercise room, and meeting room space.  In addition, the project will generate a portion of the hotel’s power requirements through alternative energy technology.  The company also plans to provide charging stations for electric cars.

The hotel will be adjacent to the Harris Corners Corporate Park, within minutes from Northlake Mall, and located only eight miles north of downtown Charlotte.  According to MJM Group’s CEO Anuj N. Mittal, “the location, amenities, and the brand-mix make this a destination hotel for both corporate and leisure travelers.”  He added that “We at MJM Group, along with our team, are committed to providing a high quality hotel to all Marriott guests and valued customers.”

The project’s design, construction, advisory and management team includes architect The Lawrence Group based in Charlotte, NC; interior design and architecture firm Gray Design based in St. Louis, MO, and; national hotel advisory firm Paramount Lodging Advisors based in Chicago, IL.  The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, a nationally recognized construction firm headquartered in Baltimore, MD, has been selected as the general contractor for the project.  This flagship property will be managed by leading hotel management group Midas Hospitality based in St. Louis, MO.  Financing for the project is provided by Live Oak Bank based in Wilmington, NC.

MJM Group had previously begun construction of a 118-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel at this location in late 2012.  Its development was stopped midway due to design and construction issues.  The hotel’s shell was ultimately demolished in 2015 to make way for this new dual-brand hotel.

MC Hotel Construction – Fastest-Growing Private Company in St. Louis, MO

ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL – ST. LOUIS, MO, June 10, 2016 – Company growth continues to build for MC Hotel Construction, a Maryland Heights-based general contracting firm that specializes in hotel construction and renovation, thanks to an upswing in the hospitality industry.

MC Hotel Construction Founders

J.T. Norville and David Robert

“We wanted to build a company that was an expert in the hotel industry,” J.T. Norville, managing member and CFO, said.

The hospitality industry generated $176 billion in lodging sales revenue in 2014, according to the latest figures available from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. That’s up from $163 billion in 2013.  When business is good for hotels, it’s also good for MC Hotel Construction, which saw revenue balloon 1,526 percent from 2012 to 2014. In 2013, revenue stood at $1.04 million; in 2015 it was $17 million. The company is projecting $46 million in revenue for 2016. It also is planning to add five jobs in project management and supervision this year.

Founded by David Robert in 2010 as an affiliate of St. Louis-based hotel developer and operator Midas Hospitality, MC Hotel Construction has built or renovated hotels across the Midwest and South. It has done work for some big-name national brands, such as Marriott, Hilton, IHG and Legacy Suites.

That specialization, plus its connection with Midas, gives the firm an edge when it comes to securing contracts for hotels, Norville said. Since 2010, the company has built seven hotels and completed five renovations.

Currently, MC Hotel Construction has 10 ongoing projects in four states. Up next for the company is renovation of the Courtyard by Marriott in Clemson, South Carolina — which Midas Hospitality acquired for $16.5 million earlier this year — and exterior renovations of Hampton Inns in Plantation, Florida, and Gonzales, Louisiana.

Locally, the firm recently broke ground on a Hampton Inn by Hilton in Wentzville. The $12 million project, located in the Wentzville Bluffs development, will have 109 rooms and suites across 64,000 square feet.  Projects range in cost from $5 million to $20 million and take up to 12-18 months to complete, Norville said.

Having a niche in construction doesn’t mean building is a cookie-cutter process, he said. Each hotel franchise is unique and has differing brand standards. Understanding each franchise’s requirements during construction can be a challenge, Norville said.

In addition to Norville and Robert, Jason Lind serves as director of operations.

Add any jobs in 2016? Five jobs in project management and supervision.
Leadership: David Robert, founder; J.T. Norville, managing member and CFO; Jason Lind, director of operations.
