Omaha Developer Announces Plan for New Hotel
OMAHA, NE - KPTM TV

October, 2009 - Omaha's hotel industry continues to
grow. Tuesday, developers announced
"Staybridge Suites," a brand new $12 million dollar
hotel, will soon be up and running near 80th and Dodge,
which could boost the local economy by nearly
$6 million dollars.

"It's an upper level, extended stay hotel, with a full
kitchen, every room is a suite, there's high speed
internet, hot breakfast every morning, a theater room
where people can watch movies and sporting events,"
said David Robert, chief operating officer.

"I think we're going to be new. The average age of
hotels in this area is 29 years, and there's a lot off
I-680, but only one new one in the last five years,"
said Dan Marak, an executive with Midas Hospitality
Group.

The group had been looking for a spot to build for about
three years, and originally planned to build near 180th
and Dodge.  But instead, the 4-story hotel will sit right along 80th and Dodge, where condos were supposed to be built.

Developers are hoping most of their business will come from Methodist and Children's hospitals.

"Great demand generates from the hospital, there's good architectural firms, the universities, good opportunity for people traveling in," said Robert.

Which also means, more foot traffic for local businesses.  Such as Zio's Pizza in the Beverly Hills Plaza.

"It's going to boost our sales and bring us lots of new faces - that'll be good," said Eric Christensen, general manager of Zio's.

Plenty of job opportunities are expected to come as well.

"We'll have probably 50 employees at our hotel, but there will also be construction jobs, and those will all be local," said Robert.

The hotel is scheduled to be done by next Thanksgiving, just in time for those relatives you don't want staying at your house, to have a nice place to rest their heads.

More than 150 Staybridge Suites are up and running across the country.  The closest one to the Omaha area, is currently in Lincoln.
